Album Online Purchase, NU107, MYX Bandarito…

Hello Everyone,
Finally, our cdbaby, com page is up. To those who are interested in purchasing our album (especially the people who live outside of the Philippines) you can go to:

http://cdbaby.com/cd/intolerant

It’s priced at $8.99 and you can get a 10% discount  if you order more than one cd. That’s right, a 10% discount if you order more than one cd! Wow! What a steal!!! (sorry i watch too many home tv shopping infomercials).

So how’s the NU107 voting going? Well, we’re still not in the countdown but we hung out with Dylan recently and apparently a lot of people have been requesting Blunt Force Trauma especially on Remote Control Weekends. Entering the countdown would be cool but getting constant requests for our song to be played is much better. So once again, thank you to the people who have been requesting our song (you know who you are). Keep those calls and texts coming. It would still be cool to get in the countdown.

Have you watched our MYX Bandarito performance this past Saturday? Hats off to the engineer who tweaked our sound for the episode. They were able to catch the live feel of our sound. To those who missed it, the replay is this Thursday, Feb 26 8pm.

Those are the updates for now. You’ll be hearing from us again soon.

EVEN THE GODS FEAR THEM NOW

By now, only the brain dead have been left unaware and unwarned of the might and muscle of Intolerant’s music: a successful merging of the best-of-the-best subgenres of both vintage and modern heavy metal.

Formed roughly around two and a half years ago during the last quarter of 2006, Intolerant began when former Skychurch bassist Russell dela Cruz and then-active Skychurch guitarist Joey Dizon (formerly of short-libed hardcore band DNYD) started exploring other musical possibilities by writing songs outside of their crossover thrash-death-hardcore comfort zone in Skychurch. Not willing to compromise the identity and musical direction of the genre-defining metal outfit, both Dela Cruz and Dizon decided it would be the next logical step to explore other music preferences with a set of new band members. First tapping the talents of former Loss of Control drummer Pepo Gohu (who was, at the time, busy juggling schedules as a DJ and as the owner and engineer in his own Swollen Studios…), the trio holed-up in various studios writing and figuring out the direction of the new material and new band; albeit nameless at the time, all three members knew that something good was bound to come up as they pooled their individual skills in the studio.

The product after a year’s worth of studio time and songwriting would be “Shift,” a dark, pensive ballad that erupts into a fierce and fiery explosion to end all misconceptions the casual music fan had - and to begin establishing their newfound enthusiasm to put metal on the proverbial map again. Still armed with a “fuck-all, no-bullshit” attitude and an uncompromising loyalty to the D.I.Y. underground ethic, the trio soon brought in a permanent bass player, former Loss of Control bassist Mic Gallegos. With Gallegos on board and experience under their collective belt, Intolerant soon transformed into a songwriting machine and before the band knew it, had enough songs to start doing the rounds in the local underground music scene.

Surprisingly, even though the band’s core of supporters did come from longtime fans of their former bands, a large chunk of the band’s following were music fans not necessarily into metal but had a taste for the adventurous and the aggressive; in short, during the short period of time since its inception, Intolerant was creating a bigger racket than even the band itself expected. The following year, Intolerant announced its existence by playing the PULP Presents: 2007 Fete Dela Musique before a crowd of thousands of music fans, and through a well-received set at the now-legendary Kaguluhan Music Festival in Cavite City, a annual gathering of the best underground heavy metal acts in the region.

Come 2008, Intolerant was already in full swing and reaching new levels of creativity and expanding their options. During the early part of the year, the band was a regular fixture in all of the metro’s prestigious music clubs and rock productions, and was slowly making a name for itself in nearby provinces like Pampanga and Olongapo. The band landed a slot at the U.P. Fair, one of the bigger, week-long music festivals in the country and garnered acclaim from both attendees and musicians backstage. More people from both the independent and commercial music industry starting paying attention, and soon the band found itself landing must-play gigs like Cebu’s Annual Sinulog Festival, and landed the much-coveted slot as openers for international Grammy Award-nominated heavy metal outfit Shadows Fall, when the band played a one-night-only show in Manila. Now armed with an impressive resume, the band continued on with its onslaught and again, opened for another international Heavy Metal outfit Darkest Hour, at the eighth installment of the country’s largest rock show to date, dubbed the PULP Summer Slam Forever, which garnered a whopping crowd estimated at 30,000 rabid music fans. Complete with a humongous sound, lights and pyrotechnic display, the performance catapulted the band into a different level no local metal band had previously reached, and the certified crowd anthem “God of War” became the new anthem to keep the flame of Pinoy metal burning.

Refusing to slow down, Intolerant sped up the pace and played even more shows in the metro and n the provinces, and again, accomplished a feat previously thought impossible, especially for a brutal heavy metal band: taking the show outside the country. In July 2008, Intolerant headed for Hong Kong and delivered the goods in front of nearly 500 metal and hardcore fans at the famed Warehouse along Aberdeen Main Road, HK (the band was scheduled to proceed to tour and perform in Guangzhou, China, yet was forced to reschedule because of the strict security measures the 2008 Olympics in Beijing had caused…). The band had again accomplished another first, inciting humongous mosh pits and non-stop circle pits, and winning over a new foreign fan base comprised not only of Chinese and Mandarin listeners, but of British and American metalheads as well – even though they were yet to record their debut album and even though there was no heavy radio, television and print promotion in Hong Kong beforehand. This is also where the band established ties with fellow hardcore/metalcore acts Shepherds The Weak and King Lychee, also considered as established touring entities in the South China region.

It was clear by this time that Intolerant had to put out a solid, physical album as the demand for their music was growing thanks to the continued efforts of online and word-of-mouth promotion. By August of 2008, the band found itself in the studio- writing, recording, mixing and producing their debut album Reasons For Unrest, a collection of ten merciless tracks that best reflected the various sides of the band as individual musicians and as a tight collective. Recording in record time of less than a month and mixing the album for less than three, it wasn’t long before established independent labels in the Philippines started expressing interest. Towards the end of the recording sessions, Intolerant had signed up with Sonic Press, a then-new division of Sonic Boom Productions.

The band released Reasons For Unrest in November 2008. Heavy metal was put back in the game and saw a resurgence, alongside the valuable efforts from Intolerant’s peers like Sin, Valley of Chrome, Badburn and Bloodshedd, to name a few. Though the band was accomplishing new heights, it refused to abandon its underground roots and still continued supporting the scene it came from. And while they were at it, still enjoyed the fruits of their labor, as they were headliners in the much-talked-about Sonic Boom Second Anniversary and in November 2008, opened for Brazilian metal legends Sepultura at the Red Horse Beer Muziklaban Grand Finals in Marikina. The band then performed at the RockEd Annual Rock Da Riles concert/advocacy, wowing an even greater crowd and market. In addition, the band was placed on the cover of local music publication Just Music, and heralded as one of the fastest-moving local acts towards the end of the year. The band was also awarded the honors (alongside Loss of Control) of being The Best Metal act in the controversial and highly publicized First Annual QLE Awards, an independent body comprised of influential music critics/writers.

At the start of 2009, Intolerant is still very much in the game and doesn’t appear to have second thoughts in pulverizing their way through anywhere and everywhere: the band was billed this time around as a headlining act at the annual Cebu Sinulog Festival, and by February, played three out of six nights at the annual U.P. Fair. The band also ventured into media, as they appeared in an episode of MYX Bandarito performing a blistering set of choice cuts off their album, and

Currently, the band is writing new material and continues to do the requisite rounds in the various venues alongside the biggest bands in the land, and is gearing up for a provincial tour of the Philippines in May 2009, including dates in Olongapo and Cavite (alongside King Lychee, Shepherds The Weak, Badburn, Sin, Typecast and Laguna hardcore band Piledriver, dubbed as the THIS IS WHAT WE CALL UNITY TOUR 2009) and the SONIC ATTACK Visayan Tour which will include dates in Davao, Cebu, Baguio, Cagayan de Oro and Quezon Province, alongside fellow Sonic Shape artists Nyctinasty and The Ambassadors.

Metal is alive and well in the Philippines. Intolerant is on the job.
