Overtone
2009-12-13

Overtone started when vocalist/bassist Norby David (playing acoustic guitar at the time) employed the help of guitarist Jay Padua, who came up with the name Overtone. Having booked a number of solo/acoustic bar gigs, Norby had to manage his time between that and the regular shows of his then band Skin, often taking a toll on his voice (and fingers). Frank entered the picture when Norby had a conflict of schedules and had to fulfill his commitment with his old band, thus leaving Jay to do a weekly acoustic gig - which he refused to do alone. Soon after, the now 3-piece acoustic group had filled their week schedule with regular bar gigs all over makati and started making a name for themselves. Everything changed when the band was asked to do a gig at Makati music bar - Dish. Knowing that that bar had a full band setup, the group had the idea of switching to electric guitars and drumset as opposed to the usual acoustic guitars and cajon just to shake things up with the show and surprise their rapidly growing audience. So without any prior rehearsals in that format, the group took to the stage as what we know as Overtone today.
