COVER STORY: Read Between The Lions Are On Fire!

Read Between The Lions have a lot on their plate. They just released their 6-song EP which was recorded at Sound Creation with Shinji Tanaka and with Sandwich’s Raimund Marasigan and Mong Alcaraz serving as co-producers. Aside from that, they are also regularly playing shows in and out of the Metro.

For a band that started out as a way to pass the time between three friends from three different bands, this sudden shift in momentum is more than a welcome change of pace. Read Between The Lions is comprised of Eric Po of We Are Imaginary on guitars and vocals, Valley Of Chrome’s Jordan Constantino on guitars, Child/ren of The Pilgrimage and Blidit’s Jerros Dolino on drums, and bassist Lloyd “Tiny” Corpuz who’s the most recent addition to the band. Considering the members’ diverse backgrounds, it’s easy to understand why Read Between The Lion’s music is so hard to pin down: it’s an amalgamation of punk rock’s energy and indie rock’s sense of melody plus a whole lot more.

The sing-along choruses and the catchy hooks will be enough to satisfy fans of bands like Hey Mercedes or Jimmy Eat World, but to resort to comparisons will be doing the band a huge disservice. They manage to put their own spin on things, and the demo that they recorded impressed Raimund Marasigan enough to warrant his involvement in recording their EP.

For the month of November, we will be featuring Read Between The Lions. To say that their star is on the rise is an understatement. These are hardworking musicians who have paid their dues, and it’s high time that they get recognized for what they’re doing. Because seriously, they are one of the best bands out there right now. And to loosely quote one of their lyrics, these boys are on fire.
